McCandless, officially the Town of McCandless, is a home rule municipality about 4 miles and a 9-minute drive from our office via Perry Highway and Ingomar Road. With almost 30,000 residents on 16.6 square miles it is the largest municipality we serve, and its town hall at 9955 Grubbs Road carries a Wexford address.
McCandless grew fast after the war: the town’s timeline counts 911 homes in 1940 and 4,019 by 1960, and McKnight Road opened in the mid-1950s. Census estimates (ACS 2020–2024) put about 43 percent of homes before 1980 and about 61 percent before 1990, with the 1960s and 1970s the biggest decades, and nearly a quarter of housing units sit in buildings of three or more units. That means many garages 45 to 65 years old, often a single door on original track and hinges, beside newer townhomes at McCandless Crossing.
